In these places you will be able to rest and relax, to lodge at in the middle of nature; to enjoy the ocean, the rivers and share with family or friends thanks to the program Touristic Inns of Colombia.
Colombia is a marvelous destination to go diving. It has two oceans, the Caribbean and the Pacific and, in each one, there are several interesting places to observe the marine life amongst coralline formations and transparent waters.
One of the most beautiful ones is Providence, a peaceful island far away from everything. It is located in the San Andres and Providence archipelago -famous for its ocean of seven colors- 25 minutes from San Andrés by small plane. It has a large coral fence where one can see barracudas, red snappers, giant bass (grouper), angel fish of different types, squirrel fish, ray (skate) fish and next to Cayo Cangrejo (Crab Key) you can see shark wet nurses. Not far away from the island, the deep ocean falls abruptly and you can see some larger fish.
The Tayrona Park in Santa Marta is another place where there are many places to go diving, amongst which the Aguja Island (Needle Island), the Gayraca Bay and the Neguanje Bay, where you will find a diversity of corals and reef fish. The submarine geography is abrupt and rocky, there are red snappers, dark, green and mottled giant-basses, brain corals, spider crabs, and you will occasionally see the lobsters.
In the boundaries of the park, the small village of Taganga has also become very appreciated by the divers all over the world because it offers lessons and practice in its calm waters.
On the Pacific side, the Gorgona island, a natural park, is another paradise by the sea if you want to go diving. It is a bit aggressive because the water is colder, the currents are stronger and immersions a bit deeper. Many turtles can be spotted, as well as sea basses, red snappers and giant basses. One of the most famous places for diving is “La tiburonera”, a natural cavern where you see sharks with white fins. Other places are “La Parguera, “La Plaza de Toros” and “Las Montañitas”.
Also, along that coast there is the Malpelo island. In order to arrive there, you have to navigate 36 hours from the port of Buenaventura but it is worth it because there are great schools of hammer sharks seen practically on every immersion. The walls of the island are full of morays and other animals.
The Rosario Islands, in front of Cartagena, the San Bernardo, Capurganá, Nuquí and Bahía Solano are also other alternatives for the diving in Colombia.
Colombia is the number one country in the world to have the largest varieties of birds, having about 1,876 species and almost 70 kinds that belong specially to Colombia. We have third place in South America after Brazil and Peru.
